Miami Heat make it official: Goran Dragic will return tonight against Pelicans

MIAMI – Goran Dragic is ready to go tonight against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Heat guard missed one game after suffering a right orbital contusion during Saturday’s win over the Raptors. He sat out Sunday’s loss to Indiana but the eye dramatically improved Monday and Dragic returned to practice Tuesday.

“It was really swollen for a day and after that day they worked it, it looked completely different,” coach Erik Spoelstra said today after shoot-around.

“It’s black and blue right now, the swelling is almost completely gone.”

Spoelstra was asked what he liked most about the eye the last few days.

“That he can see,” he said.

Dragic said some of the blurriness remains, but he was told that is normal for this stage.

“I feel good,” he said. “It’s a little bit blurry but that’s normal. The doc said it’s going to take time to clear the fluids, the swelling.”

The eye was swollen completely shut on Sunday but the Heat were not concerned it would be a long term problem after learning there was no structural damage. Dragic was constantly massaging the eye and applying cold water and that paid off Monday afternoon when it finally opened.

“It was like a boxer’s trainer (Monday) all day long trying to get the swelling out,” Spoelstra said Monday. “It worked.”

Dragic caught a Cory Joseph elbow early in the second half Saturday as Joseph was driving to the basket. Dragic has missed nine games this season. The Heat are 1-8 in those games.
