As expected, Luol Deng won’t be back with the Heat next season.

Deng agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal with the Los Angeles Lakers this morning. He started for Miami the past two seasons and was one of its most consistent players.

He was crucial to the Heat being viable after LeBron James’ exit in 2014. They signed Deng to a two-year contract a few days later, and he led them in minutes his first season.

Deng was even better last year, averaging 12.3 points and six rebounds per game. In the second half, when Chris Bosh was out, he put up 15.2 and 8.1. He was also Miami’s best player in its first-round series against Charlotte.

Deng is the second Heat starter to leave this summer. Joe Johnson agreed to a two-year, $22 million contract with Utah. As of now the only returning starters are Goran Dragic (under contract at least three more seasons), Chris Bosh (three more seasons) and Hassan Whiteside (agreed to a four-year deal Friday). Dwyane Wade remains a free agent.
