2016 NBA playoffs: Heat’s perfect lineup for Goran Dragic

Heat point guard Goran Dragic is free from the constraints of the slowdown, half-court offense and thriving in a new fast-pace attack.

Perhaps no lineup surrounds him with an ideal set of weapons like when he’s out there with buddy Luol Deng, rookies Josh Richardson and Justise Winslow and Hassan Whiteside. He and Whiteside didn’t always mesh, but Whiteside has superb speed and athleticism for a big man and their chemistry has improved substantially since the All-Star break.

Anyway, that was the third-most played group the Heat had this year at 190 minutes. Among lineups that played at least 100 minutes, it was third at plus-6.6 points per 100 possessions.

Oddly, that group hasn’t played one minute together in the first-round series against Charlotte.

Here was Deng’s take on why it suits Dragic so well as Miami headed into the playoffs:

“We’ve got different options, especially with that young unit. It’s everything that works for him. We’ve got Justise, who is very underrated for his passing and Hassan who opens up the floor because of lobs and J-Rich shooting the ball well and my slicing and Goran’s speed. It’s really a perfect group for everybody to play their way.”
