MIAMI — Erik Spoelstra remembers how Craig Sager made him feel as a young NBA scout.
“I got to know him when I was scouting, seeing him in hotels and restaurants on the road,” Spoelstra said before Friday’s game against the Clippers. “And he had a great way of just making you feel a part of the NBA community even before I felt that way or was even viewed that way. He was such an engaging person that would really connect with anybody. It was fascinating and so enjoyable to watch him in his element.”

Craig Sager will cover his first NBA Finals game Thursday.
Sager, who is battling leukemia, will join ABC for one night to share Game 6 reporting duties with Doris Burke and is ecstatic about the opportunity.

There is something
universally likable about TNT sideline reporter Craig Sager, and the entire NBA community is rooting for him in his battle against acute myeloid leukemia.
The Heat hosted Sager on Thursday for the first time since he revealed that his cancer has returned and honored him with a two-minute tribute video late in the first quarter that ended with “Looking forward to seeing you in the playoffs.”
