MIAMI — The Heat played without starting center Hassan Whiteside on Saturday against the Wizards.

The Heat announced less than an hour before the start of the game that Whiteside, 28, would miss the contest with left hip pain. Rookie Bam Adebayo started in his place.

Saturday marks the 20th game Whiteside has missed this season, as he sat out 18 games due to two separate bone bruises on his left knee and one game due to a stomach illness earlier in the year.

Whiteside is coming off one of his best performances of the season after he finished with 26 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks in a win over the 76ers and All-Star center Joel Embiid on Thursday. Whiteside is averaging 14.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 47 games this season.
