Dwyane Wade won’t leave Miami again, to remain with Heat ‘until I decide to hang it up’

MIAMI – Dwyane Wade not only is back, but he’s not going anywhere.

The Heat guard told NBA TV that his second go-around in Miami will be the final stop of his career.

“This is it for me guys,” Wade said Friday after scoring three points in the Heat’s victory over Milwaukee. “I’m (going to) stay here until I decide to hang it up. This is home. I’m so happy to be back.”

The Heat re-acquired Wade ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline, sending a 2024 second-round pick to Cleveland. Wade, 36, left Miami two summers ago after 13 seasons, signing a two-year $47 million contract with the Bulls. Wade and the Bulls reached a buyout prior to this season and Wade joined the Cavaliers.

Wade became expendable after the Cavs made three trades at the deadline in an attempt to remake their team on the fly. They made it a priority to take care of Wade and contacted the Heat.

The question now is: When does Wade decide to “hang it up.”

Wade will be a free agent this summer and likely be offered an exception. Although money played a huge part in his decision to leave in 2016, it won’t in the future with Wade already having made nearly $200 million on the court in his career.

Wade, though, was upset two years ago when the Heat did not make him their free agent priority,  offering him $40 million for two years.

But Wade and Pat Riley have made up and the most iconic player in franchise history is thrilled to be back in Miami, where he had maintained his primary residence and his children were in school.

“I was over the moon excited,” he said about coming back he said before playing his first game for the Heat since May of 2016.

Wade still believes he has something left in the tank and surely will return next season and likely try to play two more years.

“One day we’ll look back and they will always talk about my Heat years when I retire,” Wade said. “They might not mention the other ones and that’s OK. It’s just all a part of it for me.”
