Dwyane Wade, the most celebrated, decorated and iconic player in Miami Heat, history returned after a 19-month absence Friday as the Heat hosted the Milwaukee Bucks. Wade, who helped lead Miami to three championships, was re-acquired by Pat Riley on Thursday, who sent a 2014 second round pick to Cleveland to bring Wade home.
The excitement started building about 15 minutes before tipoff as the sold out arena anticipated Wade’s arrival for pregame warmups. As the Heat took the floor one-by-one, the team saved the best for last and the crowd erupted as Wade came through the tunnel.
With Erik Spoelstra electing to bring Wade off the bench for his first game in a Heat uniform since May 15, 2016, chants of ‘We Want Wade, We Want Wade,’ broke out early as the Heat fell behind the Milwaukee Bucks. Finally, Spoelstra looked down the bench up popped Wade and with 5:19 remaining in the first half everyone in the building got what they came to see.
Dwyane Wade was back.
We captured the moment – from three different angles – from Wade checking in, to his stroll to midcourt as Tyler Johnson stood at the free throw line to Wade acknowledging the ovation with a wave of his hand.
