Heat hope to learn another lesson, once again bounce back from crushing loss

MIAMI – By now, the Heat had hoped they were past the learning stage. … Over these inexplicable losses when all they can say is “we will learn from this.”

One of those losses happened again Thursday when the Kings turned into the Warriors the final six minutes and outscored the Heat 17-4 to squeeze out an 89-88 victory. But the problems go much deeper. They go back to when the Heat lacked energy from the start … of the game, the second quarter and the third quarter.

And this is what we heard …

From coach Erik Spoelstra: “We’ll learn from this as painful as it feels tonight, we will get better. Again, we can’t take our execution for granted and we’ll move on.”

From Josh Richardson: “Can’t let up, can’t relax. I think we had to learn this lesson before. We just getting taught it again I guess.”

From Wayne Ellington: “This is definitely one of the games that we learn from, we got to take it as a lesson. I’m sure we’ll watch some film and see the areas that maybe improve on, where we didn’t do well. We’re a better team than we showed tonight and we got to be able to do that consistently no matter who’s out there in front of us.”

From Hassan Whiteside: “We can just look at the film and see what we did wrong and learn from that. It’s not the end of the world. But it’s definitely something we should learn from.”

That’s a lot of learning.

The Heat have had these brain cramps before – Indiana at home, at New York, at Atlanta, Brooklyn at home. And each time they have rebounded and got back on track the next game. Those four losses were followed by wins against Boston, Charlotte, at Boston and at Orlando.

At 27-21 Miami still is in a good spot, even having lost 3-of-4. Nobody, from Cleveland at No. 3 through Detroit at No. 9, scares the Heat and only Indiana (No. 5) and Philadelphia (No. 7) have gained on Miami in the last 10 games.
