MIAMI — Rodney McGruder was good enough to log 65 starts as a rookie last season. But he apparently wasn’t good enough to earn a spot on one of the NBA’s All-Rookie teams released Monday afternoon.

Among the players who received votes but were left off the All-Rookie teams, McGruder received the most voting points. The undrafted Heat rookie finished with 61 points, which included seven first-team votes.

McGruder finished two points behind Mavericks rookie Yogi Ferrell, who was the last second-team pick. The teams were chosen by a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.

Ferrell played 36 games for Dallas, averaging 11.3 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.3 assists after joining the Mavericks in January. Players made 49.4 percent of their shots with Ferrell defending them.

In comparison, McGruder averaged 6.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 78 games for Miami. Players made 49.7 percent of their shots with McGruder defending them, but he usually defended the opponent’s top perimeter player such as Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James and James Harden.

McGruder’s Heat teammates could not believe he was left off the All-Rookie squad. Just take a look at these Instagram posts …

The NBA All-Rookie First Team consists of Milwaukee’s Malcolm Brogdon (200 points), Philadelphia’s Dario Saric (200 points) and Joel Embiid (171 points), Sacramento’s Buddy Hield (154 points), and New York’s Willy Hernangomez (128 points).

The NBA All-Rookie Second Team consists of Denver’s Jamal Murray (123 points), Boston’s Jaylen Brown (106 points), Phoenix’s Marquese Chriss (91 points), Los Angeles Lakers’ Brandon Ingram (83 points), and Ferrell (63 points).

This season marks the first time that the NBA All-Rookie First Team includes four international players: Saric (Croatia), Embiid (Cameroon), Hield (Bahamas) and Hernangomez (Spain).
