Three things to watch this week: Can Goran Dragic find his offensive rhythm for desperate Heat?

BOSTON — Having fun yet?

Another week, another set of important games for the Heat. Miami will begin the week with one of its most important games of the season, when it faces the Pistons in Detroit on Tuesday.

Detroit is one of the teams Miami is competing with for a spot in the playoffs. The Pistons are just one game behind the Heat in the standings.

Here are three things to watch …

Will Dion Waiters join the Heat on this trip?: The Heat began their current three-game road trip without Waiters, but Erik Spoelstra hasn’t ruled out Waiters joining the team at some point during the trip. But with Miami returning home after Wednesday’s game against the Knicks, Waiters has just a few days to meet his teammates. The Heat’s starting shooting guard has missed the past four games with a sprained left ankle. Miami is 1-3 without Waiters during this stretch.

Playoff watch: At the start of the week, the Heat are still in the Eastern Conference’s eighth and final playoff spot. But the Bulls and the Pistons are closing in on Miami. The Heat are just a half game ahead of No. 9 Chicago and one game ahead of No. 10 Detroit. Miami is now two games behind No. 7 Indiana, No. 6 Milwaukee and No. 5 Atlanta.

Can Goran Dragic get back on track?: Life without Dion Waiters has been challenging for Dragic. The Heat’s starting point guard is averaging 14.8 points on 33.8 percent shooting in the four games Waiters has missed with a sprained left ankle. Opposing defenses have been able to throw more defenders at Dragic without Waiters to account for, making it hard for Dragic to find open shots. It doesn’t help that Dragic is now dealing with a foot injury that’s so painful the Heat training staff is cutting a hole in the side of his sneaker to alleviate the pressure while he’s playing.
